Dogs at the Kings Arms

The Kings Arms is a dog-friendly hotel.

We welcome dog owners with amicable, well-behaved dogs, and we know that both enjoy our relaxed atmosphere and our cosy fires. The area has some fantastic dog walks, and the North Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and Lake District are beautiful.

Extra Attention for dogs of all sizes.

We go to some lengths to ensure that everyone who stays with us enjoys a clean, fresh environment. We always clean our rooms and public areas more thoroughly after dogs have visited. There are obvious challenges to this, and we ask that dog owners follow our guidelines to help us maintain the hotel for the next guest.

Key information for bringing your dog with you.

  • Please let us know at the time of booking whether you will be bringing a dog (and whether they’re small, medium, or large!) so that we can ensure that you are in a dog-friendly room and make the necessary preparations.
  • Dogs are allowed in the bar and lounge, but we ask you to keep them off the furniture.
  • Please ensure that your dog is kept next to you and on a lead when in the building.
  • We will provide a bed, food and water bowls, poo bags and some healthy dog treats for your dog upon arrival in your room. However, we ask that you keep your dog off the bed and chairs.
  • Dogs visiting the bar and restaurant will find water bowls, treats, a towel for muddy paws and wet coats if needed.
  • Please clean up after your dog. If you need a poo bag, please ask the team.
  • All the usual rules regarding dogs in the countryside apply—please observe the countryside code, keep dogs on a lead around livestock, and ensure waste is removed from public footpaths and disposed of safely.

The Cost

There is a surcharge of just £20 per dog per stay (not per night).

We will have dog treats in the bar and treats ready upon arrival.

Dog Day Care Option

If you need someone to look after your dog throughout the day while you are busy, we highly recommend Wagging Trails Dog Services.

They offer Daycare, training, overnight home boarding, and dog transportation services. Our clients have already used their services, and they are highly recommended. They are conveniently located in Newbiggin—just around the corner!

A Wonderful Hotel. Must recommend this hotel. Just checked out after a 3 night stay with my wife. Visited nearby locations such as Keswick, Grasmere and Windermere. This hotel is in a very good location for accessing the surrounding area. The hotel itself is 400 years old and is oozing character, it's warm & comfortable. We stayed during horrendous weather and the hotel was soooo nice to come back to especially it's open fire. Staff are polite, welcoming & helpful. I didn't give a 5 out of 5 because I very rarely do. Amsterdam is our next getaway.

We had a fantastic evening at the Kings Arms on Friday. The new decor makes the place feel modern, homely and welcoming. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. The food was first class.

This is without doubt one of the best places to eat now in this area!
